Adoption Information

Adoption Requirements

-- General Info

  • Animals placed for adoption are monitored for a 14 day health period to address medical concerns.

  • All animals are evaluated based on their health, known history, and temperament.

  • Animals are not necessarily available on a first-come first-served basis.

  • The PA SPCA does not knowingly adopt out unhealthy animals, but we don't know the background of most of these pets.

-- Adoption Policies

To ensure that the animals we are re-homing will have a safe and secure future we have specific adoption policies;
please read carefully:

  • You must be 18 years of age or older to adopt a pet.

  • Be able to provide proof of address with identification such as a driver's license.

  • Being able to provide proof of ownership of your home or have landlord approval.

  • Where suitable, bring along members of the household and other pets to meet the prospective new pet.

  • Please be prepared to show current ID with current address.

  • Some animals adopted are held to be spayed or neutered.

  • A $25.00 non-refundable deposit will hold a particular animals for 24 hours.

  • Payment methods accepted: Cash, Debit, Visa, MasterCard or American Express.

  • A Pet Adoption Application must be filled out. Please be aware that adoption approval may take up to 24 hours.

  • The PA SPCA reserves the right to refuse any adoption when it is felt the adoption is not a suitable placement.

If you find a medical problem we did not detect or if one develops during that first two weeks you have the animal,
you may seek medical attention at your own expense or the animal should be be turned to the PA SPCA.

While we hope your pet selection process is successful and permanent, we do offer a 14-day period
to ascertain acknowledged behavioral abnormalities during which time depending on the problem a refund is available.
During this period you may surrender the pet for any reason and no charge will be made for the surrender.

If, at any time, you can no longer care for your pet and cannot find a suitable home, you may return to the pet to the PA SPCA.
Please call first to make sure space is available.
A surrender fee would be applicable in this instance.

NOTE: Sterilization is NOT OPTIONAL when adopting from the Prince Albert SPCA. The adoption contract is a legally
binding agreement between adopters and the Prince Albert SPCA.
FAILURE TO COMPLY IS A BREACH OF CONTRACT.
The PA SPCA can and will repossess animals which are not spayed or neutered as outlined in the adoption contract.

It's a sad fact that only 28% of cats at our Animal Care Centre find homes.
Please consider us if you are looking for a cat or kitten.

If you don't live nearby and are interested in one of our pets, WE WILL ship them out.
So contact us before dismissing the idea!!
