The gifting of publicly-traded securities (“in-kind”) transfers directly to a charity is more tax-efficient than selling the securities and then donating the cash proceeds.

That's what these people did...
The Red Hat Ladies of Prince Albert made a monetary donation,
as well as a donation of toys and treats for the dogs and cats.
St. Michael Community School raised money during a dance
held recently at the school. The St. Michael Student Leadership
Council presented a cheque to SPCA employee Leanne Roberts,
along with Hooch.
