Experts tell us the building is beyond repair and renovation.

We must construct

a new facility.

It isn't possible to renovate and expand the existing building. The building has become a health problem for both animals and people. Healthy animals that could be readily adopted when they arrive often end up sick within days of being here, delaying their adoption, occupying much needed space and requiring costly veterinary care and medication.

However, it is not just that we need more space; we need space designed to cater to the changing needs of people and animals alike. Over the past few years the services that we offer have changed. The traditional animal shelter model no longer adequately serves either people or animals. There is a huge need to educate and empower communities to care for and respect animals. Our new progressive education and community programs have reached hundreds or people, and we need more space for these programs to grow.

New Leash on Life

We have a PROBLEM!

Over the past number of years, we have been forced to turn away hundreds of animals from our doors for one simple reason: SPACE. We care for more than 1,300 companion animals each year. At any point in the year we have roughly 80 cat & 40 dog "guests". However, this is the limit to the number of pets we can accept with less than 3000 square feet. There are many animals we cannot help because we don't have the space to let them stay.

Our community is growing rapidly. Prince Albert is growing at an unprecedented pace and the next 25 years is predicted to see an increase to more than 49,000 residents. More people means more pets...and more need for our SPCA. As Prince Albert grows, the SPCA needs to grow too.
